On May 4–5, VietnamEvent was pleased to organize the 4th Asia-Pacific regional forum on smart sustainable cities and e-government 2018 in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province. This was the event organized within the Asia-Pacific region.

As an event organized by MIC (Ministry of Information and Communications), it coordinates with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province. The Conference had the attendance of Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam, Deputy General Secretary of ITU Malcolm Johnson and Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa People's Committee Le Anh Tuan, along with nearly 300 domestic and foreign delegates from communication offices and Telecommunications and Information Technology organizations in the Asia-Pacific region, leaders of all cities that have deployed smart metropolis plan, head of government offices, managers and businesses in the smart urban and e-government sectors.

Also at the opening of the conference, ITU Deputy Secretary General Malcolm Johnson said that cities across Vietnam are embarking on a digital shift. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang have been selected as part of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network. These ideas of new smart urban will create opportunities, new markets for ICT and new international cooperation. That is the reason for building cooperation among nations in the region, which has more than 2.1 billion urban dwellers and more than two-thirds of the population will live in cities by 2050.
Deputy Secretary General Malcolm Johnson said the ITU is working to develop the huge potential of those emerging technologies, such as AI, Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G, in order to build smart and sustainable cities
The 4th Asia-Pacific regional forum on smart sustainable cities and e-Government 2018 was a forum for international and national experts to discuss, share information and share experiences about development trends, standard requirements for smart cities, successful lessons and development experiences of some big cities.

It also provides an opportunity to connect policymakers, authorities with businesses, NGOs and academic researchers in term of promoting public-private partnerships (PPP) in smart cities and e-government field.
