On November 30 and December 1, 2022, in Hanoi, the hybrid ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Workshop on Implementing UNCLOS and other International Instruments to Address Emerging Maritime Issues, co-organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the EU, New Zealand, and Australia, brought together about 200 representatives from 27 ARF member countries, regional and international organizations, ministries, diplomatic offices, research institutes, and agencies.

Thomas Wiersing, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, emphasized ASEAN's leadership role in fostering regional peace and stability
Chargé d'affaires of the Australian Embassy in Hanoi Mark Tattersall praised the ARF’s contribution to Indo-Pacific security and cooperation dialogues
Delegates agreed that the 1982 UNCLOS is the most vital legal tool for maintaining peace and stability in the region, providing a framework to push ahead with the resolution of both traditional and emerging maritime concerns in the region.
